Sandy Mahon, new Windsor to Reading Line officer was delighted to attend an event at Wokingham Train Station on Friday 7th October to celebrate the adoption of Wokingham Train station and the launch of Easy Read Station Guide. This partnership event between Optalis, CLASP, the Wokingham Learning Disability Partnership Board and South Western Railway, had team members on hand to share information about using train travel for those who face barriers to travel and to raise awareness of learning disabilities.
Optalis Ability Travel is a bespoke service which offers travel training support and access to independent travel. CLASP is a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities. It also supports its members to be more independent.
CLASP worked with Southeast Community Rail Partnership and South Western Railway to produce an easy read, accessible station and train guide to help everyone with disabilities plan and navigate their travels, safely and confidently. Sandy said “The sun was shining as we were treated to a wonderful and enthusiastic performance by CLASP Community Choir, with smiles and applause from passing pedestrians and train station visitors. A fantastic initiative and a very fun day.
