On Friday 7th November, veterans from the Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Clubs (AFVBC) attended two unveiling ceremonies, officiated by Lady Emma Barnard, Their Majesties’ Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex.
Rowena Tyler, SCRP Community Development Officer for the Arun Valley Line travelled by train between the two events with a group of veterans.
The first was at Crawley followed by another at Horsham, where a Royal Enfield dispatch bike rider was parked at the front to help set the scene.
After the Horsham ceremony the group left for a small reception at Westlake House.
Rowena said: “GTR facilities staff have been working hard with me to facilitate the memorials’ installation, which involved a lot of communication with the AFVBC during the planning stage. The memorials now have their place in each of the stations and are a fitting tribute to all the veterans in this area, including George Durrant, a Burma Star veteran, who is 101 years old and attended the Crawley unveiling.”
George had a busy weekend planned, as he was at the Royal Albert Hall the following day for the Remembrance Concert
