An impressive number of guests from the local community in Winnersh came along to the unveiling of a permanent plaque to commemorate the 115th birthday of Winnersh Station on 10th January. A history poster accompanied the plaque, detailing how this once rural backwater consisting of no more than a few cottages and farmhouses, expanded with the coming of the railway, and Winnersh became what it is today.
We enjoyed refreshments at a nearby venue, learnt more about the history of Winnersh and Danny Coope, consultant historian, gave us the first glimps of the blue plaques that will become part of a year long Railway 200 project along all the Southeast Communities Partnership lines, celebrating 200 years of the modern railway.
Lovely to have old friends and new gather to support Community Rail and our activities.
