The Vanguard Way are organising a walk for members and affiliate members of the VWA on Sunday 3rd September, jointly with the Vanguard Rambling Club. It will be circular from New Addington Tram Stop, about 7 miles, featuring a visit to the Selsdon Wood Open Day (with stalls of many local organisations and a tea tent), short stretches of the Vanguard Way, London Loop and Tandridge Border Path, Hutchinson’s Bank Nature Reserve, with a late lunch at one of our favourite pubs, the Bull Inn at Chelsham Common. It’s a bit hilly but lovely countryside.
Meet New Addington Tram Stop at 11.30. Trams every 7-8 minutes, but I suggest you aim for the one due to leave West Croydon 11.01 and East Croydon 11.06, arriving New Addington 11.26.
And there are plenty of buses serving other stations in the area:
64 (Thornton Heath, West, East and South Croydon).
130 (Thornton Heath, Norwood Junction).
314 (Eltham, New Eltham, Elmstead Woods, Sundridge Park, Bromley North and South, Hayes).
They all serve Addington Village Interchange. Also the 464 goes there from Tatsfield and Biggin Hill.
The nearby Central Parade Car Park (post code CR0 0JB, grid reference TQ 383 621) is free on Sundays.
Optional early return at the lunch stop (4.5 miles, from Warlingham Sainsbury’s to Croydon).
All subject to strikes, engineering works etc!
