A former journalist is on track to make news by connecting communities to their railways on the Marshlink line.

Paul Bromley has begun work on the rail route between Hastings and Ashford International. He has been a Community Rail line officer with Southeast Communities Rail Partnership for three years and previously looked after the Sussex Downs Line (Seaford to Brighton).

He worked as a journalist and broadcaster for 35 years including learning his craft in Hastings and reporting for newspapers in Sussex and Kent.

Paul said: “It’s great to be the new Community Rail line officer for the Marshlink line. I’m really looking forward to working with all the communities, the people and the stations along this fantastic stretch of railway line.

“If ever there was a route that told the story of our changing coastal landscape, the altering seasons and the magnificent countryside that we have in this area, then surely it is the Marshlink line.”

He was welcomed to the role at Rye station by Marshlink Community Rail Partnership line chair Kevin Boorman and vice chair Mick Burgess.

Kevin commented: “I’m really pleased to welcome Paul as the new line officer. He’s got such enthusiasm and I’m sure it will be great having him on the line.”

Paul replaces Sara Grisewood who has moved within SCRP to the North Downs Line (Gatwick Airport to Reading).
