Wrap Up is a country-wide initiative that runs in the Autumn with the objective of collecting coats from those who no longer need them and distributing to those who do. Wrap Up was founded 13 years ago by charity HandsOn London – www.handsonlondon.org.uk/wrapuplondon.
It’s been operating successfully in many cities across the country even during COVID lockdowns, mostly being run by Rotary Clubs. Wrap Up in West Sussex will be running in mid November 2023 for the second year at Worthing station. In 2022 over 500 coats and other items of warm clothing were donated and collected in by the volunteers.
Coats and jackets can be donated at a collection point at Worthing train station, manned by Rotarians and other volunteers. There will also be collections in the community run by staff at local businesses, shops, offices, community groups, schools etc.
Collections at Worthing train station – leaflets will be available for visitors to the station on the mornings of Weds 8th & Thurs 9th November, and the following week Tues 14th / Weds 15th / Thurs 16th, coats can be donated at the station.
Community collections – Local organisations have been recruited to collect coats, which will then be retrieved by Tarring Rotary or the Sussex Homeless Support team. Look out for posters displaying the Wrap up Worthing logo.
Please note – this initiative is Coat donation only – No Money please. Coats Only. Wrap up has always had a strong principle of not asking for financial donations. It is about people giving a coat, or their time.
Publicity – the initiative has its own Facebook page and uses social media to promote the activity. ‘Shares’, ‘Likes’ and positive comments are always helpful.
