Wins for Southeast Communities Rail Partnership and partnership at National Awards
Southeast Communities Rail Partnership (SCRP) is delighted to announce that two of its projects have won top prize at the Community Rail Awards as well as being placed 3rd in the ‘Tourism & Leisure’ and ‘Most Effective Communication Campaign’ categories.
Top prize in the ‘Railway 200 Legacy’ award went to our 200 Blue Plaques project which celebrates the past, enriches the present and inspires the future of the railway. Judges praised the projects imaginative connections highlighted by the 100 plaques naming people and events over the last 200 years across our ten lines, and 100 modern, diverse jobs to encourage people today to consider a career in the railway industry. This will ensure we can continue to enjoy our railways for the next 200 years.
Kevin Boorman, volunteer director of the SCRP, said:- “We were absolutely delighted to win this award. A lot of people worked really hard on this project, including our own staff, volunteers in our line groups, colleagues in the railway industry, and East Sussex-based historian Danny Coope.”
Win number two went to SCRP and Optalis for the Travel Ambassadors project for inspiring confidence, removing barriers and helping everyone feel truly welcome on the railway. The insights gained by the ambassadors whilst testing real journeys have supported other passengers and given actionable ideas to transport partners to improve accessibility.
Donna Morgans, Head of Supported Employment Services, said:- “3 of the Travel Ambassadors are now in paid employment and the other is in further educations, this partnership has made a real difference.”
These projects highlight the SCRP’s commitment to giving a voice to local communities, promoting sustainable and accessible travel, bringing communities together by supporting diversity and inclusion and supporting social and economic development.
We thank all our station groups, partners, community groups and volunteers who have made these projects such wonderful successes.
Our congratulations also go to Wokingham Disability Partnership Board who won in the Community Creative Projects & Station Arts and Outstanding Contribution to Community Rail by a group Farnborough Street Residents Association, who also placed 3rd place in Best Community Engagement category.
