Board at Lancing Station

In September 2024, Keep Lancing Lovely (KLL) organised the installation of a series of heritage boards at Lancing Station which are part of the Adur Connected Heritage Project. Adur Connected | Shoreham Society.  The photographs are in the Gateside entrance on the north platform directly opposite The Railway pub in Sompting Road. They are inside and outside the Gateside using modern display techniques. As well as railway passengers going through the ticket barriers, the public going past outside the station will see them.  The photographs are a reminder of the station’s rich history and heritage. They capture the stories of the people who have worked at the station and the passengers who have passed through its doors. They are a connection to and a reminder of the importance of memories of past times.

The images are now installed and will be there for an extended period for all to see. Already, relatives of people who have worked at the station in the past have contacted KLL and visited the Village, bringing along not only their memories but files of paperwork. This will be added to the growing archive of photographs and documents about the station and the nearby former Lancing Carriage Works. In the Ticket Office there are more fascinating display boards with photographs, postcards and documents telling more about the history of the station.
