Get Into Trains at Eastbourne

You may recently have seen our  temporary ‘pop-up studio’ at Eastbourne station, the final destination for this pilot project.  Get Into Trains aimed to encourage disabled travelers to combine train travel training with an creative workshop with artist Anne Colvin. Supported by station manager Kate Richards and staff we enjoyed a successful last day to the project.

This project was designed to build on the fact that transport in general is a key challenge in the lives of many disabled people.  It is also a great source of fascination and interest.   We supported disabled people to;

• Learn more about their local stations and rail history
• Gain information, skills and confidence to enable them to use the railways as part of their everyday lives
• Meet new people, visit new places and learn new creative skills
• Give something back to the rail network and encourage ongoing involvement in community rail activity (such as gardening groups etc)

This successful and rewarding project  has seen 3 station workshops and 19 participants. We are now in the process of gathering project feedback to create a new programme of Get Into Trains for the future
