On Thursday 26th May a small but select band of intrepid walkers from Surrey Hills Society, Southeast Communities Rail Partnership, Community Rail Network and GWR enjoyed an excellent walk from Gomshall to Denbies Vineyard at Dorking.

The walk was a Rail to Ramble designed by the Surrey Hills Society and put on as part of Community Rail Week, being the third leg of four walks from Shalford to Betchworth which can be found at :-

Walk & Run | Surrey Hills

We were sent on our way from Marquis Motorhomes and Caravans, adjacent to Gomshall Station, by the Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Dennis Booth and his wife Mary after a cup of coffee and armed with bacon baps for the journey. We ventured on a beautiful walk of 6.5 miles, peppered with superb views of Ranmore Common, Leith Hill and Dorking, until we arrived at Denbies to be greeted by the (very) new Chair of Mole Valley DC, Councillor Paul Potter, who welcomed us during his lunch hour from work at the vineyard ! After a couple of (soft) drinks the group disbanded for the journey back  via Dorking Deepdene to Gomshall on the GWR service.

Rail to Ramble is a great way to explore the countryside, either doing a linear walk and returning by train or leaving the car behind completely.
