Congratulations to Friends of Ashford station, our inspirational station adopters at Ashford on the Windsor to Reading line, who were winners in the Best Project involving Young People category at the SWR Community Rail Awards 2026 in Portsmouth on 7th October! This category always has many strong entries so it is a real achievement.
Judges commented ‘Young people were involved in every stage of the mural process, and they learned how to project plan and further developed their technical art knowledge.
The young people involved with the mural project consulted with the local community from inception to post completion demonstrating that young people are an important part of the local community and the fact that the young people have committed to upkeep ensures sustainability and long-term youth involvement’.
