During Community Rail Week we celebrated the launch of a new podcast by Whistlestop Arts which includes lovely suggestions for exploring around the North Downs Line without a car. There is a whole episode devoted to Chilworth, which includes some railway history, facts about the historic Gunpowder Mills, which is within walking distance of the station, together with fascinating insights into the architectural delights of nearby Blackheath.
The launch took place at Pippbrook House in Dorking, wonderfully organised by Luna and Annaliese at Whistlestop Arts, with quiet spots to listen to the podcast, some lovely speeches by those involved, and perfect cakes. It was also a positive event in terms of discussion of ideas for future projects. The lovely wooden Thoughts tree provided by SHNL, and made at a local sawmill, created a focal point for our wishes for future projects, encouraging access for all to the the nature and wildlife of the Surrey Hills, and the importance of sustainable transport. It was especially relevant for Community Rail Week’s theme: Journeys for All. Have a listen: whistlestoparts.org/amblesrambles
