On Friday 18 July Crowborough station hosted an event to celebrate the signing of the lease between the Community Hub Committee, GTR and Network Rail. This was a true Railway 200 event or rather a Railway in the 21st century event, looking forward rather than to the past 200 years.
Part of the station that has stood empty for many years has been handed to the community to provide much needed community space to serve this end of the town.
The event was very well attended by members of the local community including the MP Nusrat Ghani, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Southern/GTR staff, Community Rail Network, representation by many people who have supported the project and are planning its future use.
It was a moment of celebration as now the hard work begins to turn an empty shell into a welcoming space to serve local residents for many years to come.
