Today marks the start of Community Rail Week – and the beginning of the World Cup of Stations competition.

Two of our stations – Bognor Regis on the Arun Valley Line and Bishopstone on the Sussex Downs Line – have made it through to the shortlist of the World Cup of Stations and a chance to be crowned ‘The UK’s Best Loved Station’.

Community Rail Week (running from 22-28 May) is organised by Community Rail Network and sponsored by Rail Delivery Group. It is showcasing year-round work by Britain’s 76 community rail partnerships and 1,200 station groups. The week of activities is using the theme ‘Connecting Communities by Rail’ and we will be showing how our historic railways connect communities and are helping us move towards a greener, healthier, fairer future.

As part of Community Rail Week 2023, Rail Delivery Group have teamed up with Community Rail Network to host the World Cup of Stations. This annual tournament established in 2019, celebrates the UK’s best stations by having them battle it out head-to-head in an online public vote.

A total of 48 stations from around the country were shortlisted by railway historian and TV presenter Tim Dunn. These stations will compete in the World Cup of Stations 22-26 May, during Community Rail Week.

Bognor Regis has been shortlisted in the South East regional group with voting on Monday 22 May.

Bishopstone has been shortlisted in Tim Dunn’s bonus group with voting on Wednesday 24 May.

You can follow the action and vote for the station you want to win by visiting the special webpage between Monday 22 and Friday 26 May, following @raildeliverygrp on Twitter or by searching for the hashtag #WorldCupOfStations.

Voting will take place on both the RDG’s Twitter page and on the special webpage.

Please show your support for Bognor Regis on Monday and Bishopstone on Wednesday.
