The Southeast Community Rail Partnership (SCRP) will today distribute white hearts across its network to raise awareness of support services and signpost sources of help in recognition of White Ribbon Day, the global campaign to end violence against women and girls.

More than 20 stations across the region, including Eastbourne, Hastings, Ashford, Brighton, Hove, Horsham, Chichester, Crawley and Reading will take part in the day of action. SCRP staff, station partners, councillors, and volunteers will signpost to local and regional support services and to promote safety and community connection.

Thanks to an extraordinary community effort, volunteers have created over 6000 knitted and crocheted white hearts. These will be handed out to passengers as a symbol of care, kindness and solidarity, supported by 28 partner organisations from councils, voluntary groups, and station teams.

Tim Barkley, Chair of Southeast Community Rail Partnership, said:

“White Ribbon Day is an important reminder that safety and support must always be within reach. The white hearts show that your community cares and that no one should feel alone. By working together across our stations, we are helping to raise awareness of help available and encouraging conversations that make our communities safer.”

The initiative forms part of SCRP’s wider commitment to ensuring stations are welcoming, inclusive places where passengers feel safe and supported, and where local organisations can work together to strengthen community wellbeing.
