The station staff, Friends of St Margarets Station and SCRP hosted a Railway 200 birthday party in the ticket hall last week. It was to celebrate the opening of the station on 2nd October, 1876.

Passengers arriving and leaving at St Margarets, as well as locals and passers-by, were met with party balloons and homemade cupcakes and hobnobs.

Paul, a local railway enthusiast, provided photographs of the station as it was in the 19th century, as well as copies of the original architect’s drawings, which were on show. Richmond Mayor, Councillor Penny Penny Frost, and Councillor Alexander Ehmann, Chair of Richmond’s Transport and Air Quality Committee, joined locals and SWR Station staff, Lawrence and Jaqui, in singing “Happy Birthday” to the station, for the delight of passengers.

The Friends of St Margaret Station have really made a difference to the station in the last year with beautiful planting on the platforms. With the help of Southeast Communities Rail Partnership, more creative projects are in the pipeline to further develop the station’s relationship with the St Margarets community.
