A new display of poems has been installed in the waiting room at Rye railway station.
The seven poems are all on the theme of ‘Arriving and Departing’ and have been written by members of the Rye Harbour Writers group. Artwork is by artist and poet Lenka Medlik.
Poet S C Morgan from the writing group, who has written one of the poems ‘Maids of Rye Market’, said: “The waiting room at Rye station is a really important building. It is what people see when they first come to Rye by train. It is good to involve the local creative community and it is really fun to have something different in the station.”
She added: “All the poems discuss things you can see in Rye or Rye Harbour while you are here.”
The posters were commissioned by Southeast Communities Rail Partnership and printed by Southern Railway.
This is the fourth exhibition staged by Rye Harbour Writers at the station. Previous displays have included works on the theme of nature and art.
The group has 14 members and meets monthly at Rye Harbour. The poems will remain on display at the station into the new year.
