The launch event has taken place for the first Brighton & Hove Walking Festival.

Sussex Downs Line Officer Paul Bromley attended the formal start of the festival outside St Peter’s Church in Brighton on Saturday 24 June.

He promoted the work of Southeast Communities Rail Partnership and the Days Out by Rail campaign run by Scenic Rail Britain.

The festival runs until 9 July with a series of walks across Brighton & Hove.

SCRP has worked with the festival organisers on a special railway-themed walk in conjunction with our Brighton station Community Rail partner the Brighton Toy & Model Museum.

The walk is called ‘Going Loco’ and there are two events taking place on Saturday 8 July.

The walks will be led by an enthusiastic and experienced tour guide. The talks start and end outside the Toy and Model Museum (in Trafalgar Street underneath Brighton railway station). They are scheduled to last 45-60 minutes.

At 11am there will be a family friendly tour focusing on the fun parts of the Level and North Laines.

The 2pm adult tour takes in the immediate history of the area including the railway engineering works, Isetta Square (bubble cars) and the Brighton Greenway.

Both walks end with a discounted admission to the museum (50% off to all walk participants).

You can download a brochure to view the timetable of events.
