Concept and aims

The aim was to create colourful artwork for the waiting shelters at North Camp Station. This was an opportunity to engage with 2 local primary schools with workshops based on the theme of exploring nature by rail. We were given funding by GWR which made the project possible.

What happened

I worked at Holly Lodge school with both the year 4 classes and at South Farnborough Junior School with all 3 of the year 3 classes. We talked about wildflife, plants and animals found near the railway line at North Camp and all the students worked really hard to create beautiful colourful designs with oil pastel and watercolour.

The designs were then transformed into vinyls by a local designer and installed in the window panels of the waiting shelters at the Station.

Results

The vinyls have transformed the waiting shelters and created a vibrant display for those waiting at the station and passing through. They coexist with the lovely wildflower planting taking place there by Friends of North Camp Station and the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust. They really do encourage people to explore nature by rail!
