The idea was to celebrate the connection between the rock band Queen, particularly the memory of Freddie Mercury and Feltham. To bring together community groups sin a day of celebration and to connect people with the rail network
The day was organised to begin with an acoustic concert at the Freddie Mercury memorial on Feltham High Street. An information stall run by the Friends of Feltham Pond gave out information about local groups and the surrounding area. A Freddie mercury tour was organised taking in the historic local pond, a tour of the local Zoroastrian temple, Brian Mays childhood home and Freddie Mercury’s family home.
We then caught the train from Feltham station where a musician played a selection of Queen songs to the passengers on their way to Waterloo station. At Waterloo a silent disco was organised for anyone to take part in and a pianist and soloist accompanied by SWR’s choir sang a medley of Queen songs
We had almost eighty requests for tickets on our Eventbrite listing for the event. The Major of Feltham councillor Karen Smith and the local MP Seema Malhotra both attended the event.
The Zoroastrian temple gave a tour and talk in the temple. We then all walked to Brian Mays house and then to Freddie Mercury’s house with a talk from Angela Parton, local historian.
The group then made their way to Feltham railway station where we caught a train to Waterloo station. Guitarist Petra Jovanovic played a medley of Queen songs on the journey.
Arriving at Waterloo we had more live music in the orchestra pit from Petra, and on keyboards and vocals the young musician Dune Rao-Reed. The SWR choir accompanied the musicians. From 4.30 – 6pm we had a silent disco featuring, Queen numbers.
“It’s a beautiful way to honour Freddie Mercury, the best performer who stepped into our lives. It’s not just a tribute; it’s a celebration of his life.”
“I especially loved singing Freddie Mercury songs accompanied by a solo guitarist on the train journey to Waterloo station for the silent disco after the amazing and very interesting tour”
