Christs’ Hospital School, a long time station partner at Horsham, had installed poster artwork on the stairwells at the station. Unfortunately, these posters had deteriorated over time, due to wear and tear and some vandalism.
The artwork needed to be replenished in a more durable way.
Rowena spoke to GTR maintenance for advice. Dean Ferrari and Stuart Holmes visited the station, and suggested that any new artwork should be mounted onto Dibond panels, rather than just paper posters. Christ’s Hospital School agreed to purchase the Dibond panels, mount the artwork onto them, then deliver to the station.
Dean and Stuart went one step further when installing the panels. Each one was fitted with a Perspex shield, screwed in with whiteheaded screws, which gave the finished product a professional look as well as an extra layer of durability.
The panels were installed in a day, with minimum disruption to the public.
Each of the three stairwells, leading to the platforms, now display a professionally installed art display, produced by young artists who attend Christ’s Hospital school, a leading school in the area.
As the panels were installed, visitors to station were already commenting on how nice it was to see the stairwells being brightened up.
Three of the students involved in the project visited the station to be photographed next to their own work.
Conrad, Judith and Sienna all expressed pride at seeing their artwork at Horsham and also appreciation to GTR maintenance team for helping to ensure its durability.
"It is a wonderful initiative to turn the walls of a train station into an art gallery and an absolute pleasure to see our students’ artwork displayed there. We hope it brightens up lots of commuters’ journeys."
"As part of GTR’s vision, our maintenance team have a commitment to support our community rail partnerships. We are very pleased to see the artwork installed in a professional way. We will continue to develop our relationship with communities and are committed to deliver more projects in the future."
"Having my work displayed at the station is an amazing experience. As a student, it’s been an honour to see my art out in the world, inspiring me to continue to pursue my passion."
