A new series of podcasts and short films celebrating communities along the Arun Valley Train Line has been launched thanks to a unique partnership between local authorities, tourism organisations and the community rail sector.
The project was delivered collaboratively by Southeast Communities Rail Partnership, Arun District Council, Horsham District Council, Experience Sussex and Whistlestop Arts, the creative force behind the initiative.
Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and commissioned by Arun District Council, the second podcast series celebrates six railway stations and their surrounding communities in Arun District: Angmering, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Ford, Barnham and Arundel.
Each episode highlights the unique character of the local area, showcasing attractions, walks and community activities that visitors can easily reach by train.
The series follows on from the successful first series focusing on stations in the Horsham District, including Horsham, Billingshurst, Pulborough and Amberley.
To accompany the new series, additional funding from the Community Rail Network enabled the creation of a fun children’s activity pack. The pack follows Sonnet the Skylark on a mystery adventure, with puzzles and clues that families can solve while travelling by train or from home.
The project highlights how collaboration between community organisations, councils and creative partners can bring local stories to life while encouraging sustainable travel and exploration.
By showcasing the attractions and communities along the Arun Valley Line, the initiative aims to inspire residents and visitors alike to discover the area by rail and enjoy everything the region has to offer.
