On 11 January Sussex CRP took a group of 14 young adults from the County Care group to London for one of Southern’s Try the Train trips. The journey started at Redhill where the group used their assisted travel cards to purchase (not really they were all complimentary) their own tickets, they then toured the station using the visual aid communication sheets that have been designed by Southern to assist people with communication difficulties. Then it was onto the train to the beautiful St Pancras station where we met three British Transport Police who stopped for a quick photo opportunity, then off for some lunch (again courtesy of Southern) before free time just wandering around taking in the sights.
We were joined for the day by the Redhill station manager Carrol Humphris who said she really enjoyed the experience and that it helped her appreciate the difficulties some have to overcome to enable them to travel independently.
