Two railway-themed walks were held on Saturday (8 July) as part of the Brighton Walking Festival.
Both tours started and ended at the Brighton Toy & Model Museum which is our Community Rail station partner at Brighton. The theme was ‘Going Loco’ to reflect Brighton’s importance as a railway town.
The first walk was aimed at families and included an I-Spy picture trail to find various images along the route. The second walk was aimed at adults and incorporated more of Brighton’s railway history including the site of the former locomotive works and details about London Road viaduct.
The tours were led by museum volunteer Russ Darbon and he was assisted by Glenys Horton who dressed up as a 1950s’ Brighton Promette.
Sussex Downs Line Officer Paul Bromley had the initial idea for the railway-themed walks and brought the various organisations together including Brighton & Hove City Council and Brighton Toy & Model Museum. The council held its first Walking Festival from 24 June to 9 July.
