Three Bridges Area Signalling Centre (ASC) recently celebrated 40 years since its doors opened on the first days of operation back in 1983.
On Friday 30 June, colleagues and friends from across the railway industry, as well as the local Member of Parliament, Henry Smith MP came together, to mark exactly 40 years of activity at the ASC.
Representing the Arun Valley Line Group, was Brenda Burgess, an active station partner at Three Bridges station. She was accompanied by two very enthusiastic rail enthusiasts, Zoe Burgess aged 6 and Joseph Burgess aged 5. They were invited to enter the cab, and see how the seats lifted up and down.
The day also included a renaming ceremony of a locomotive, thanks to colleagues at GB Railfreight. Guests were treated to a tour of the signalling centre, as well as speeches and insight from current and past employees. The event was a great way to thank all of those who have worked in the ASC over the past 40 years. The signallers and other teams within the ASC play a vital role in keeping passengers and freight on the move across Sussex and the South East.
