Steyning & District Community Partnership Visitor & Tourism Committee, has produced 4 railway boards to depict the history of the 2 railway stations – Steyning & Bramber – and the Steyning Line; all no longer in existence
As well as telling the railway history, the boards include QR codes that can be clicked on. One will take you to more railway history from Steyning Museum; the next – ECHO – will give you audio commentary on the Steyning Line and the final one will link you to a fun Augmented Reality figure of a Station Master The boards are to be found in the vicinity of the Bramber Roundabout – the Steyning Board standing on its own just below Bramber Castle and the other 3 all grouped together on the pathway leading from/to the routes that walkers and cyclists use to link to the Downs. This group is actually on the spot where Bramber Station once stood.
The project, known as The Lost Railway has taken 3 years to complete with support from Southeast Communities Rail Partnership (SCRP); funding from the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) and Community Rail Development Fund (CRDF). They are an excellent and interesting focal point to head for when enjoying the Downs or the Downs Link, or on the way to Steyning or Bramber.
A celebration get-together at the boards’ location is being planned by the committee, to thank funders and partners involved in this project.
Reina Alston, a director of Steyning & District Community Partnership, said: “Putting together the intricate story of this Lost Railway has been a 3 year task, and we are grateful to the Steyning Museum and local railway enthusiasts for their input and contributions. The illustrations accompanying the text are beautiful and detailed, and the result is a masterpiece. We were fortunate to secure funding from two supportive sources, which enabled us to move from concept and design to actual production.
