Things to do

A bench and plaque have been unveiled in memory of former Seaford to Brighton Line Chair Jon Freeman.

Members of Jon’s family were at the ceremony at Cradle Hill community primary school in Seaford.

Jon served as Chair of the Seaford to Brighton Community Rail Partnership from its start in 2013 until his death in September 2021. He was a former Seaford town councillor and ex-Mayor of Seaford.

The bench and plaque are part of a new outdoor play area/classroom at Cradle Hill school where Jon served as Chair of Governors.

The items form part of a donation in Jon’s memory from a fund set up by Southeast Communities Rail Partnership and Community Rail Network.

Jon’s widow Chrissie and one of his sons Sam attended the official opening ceremony for the new outdoor classroom alongside SCRP staff and directors as well as members of the Seaford to Brighton (now called Sussex Downs Line) Community Rail Partnership.

The guests were welcomed to the event by Seaford town crier Peter White who is also a member of the Sussex Downs Line steering group and who served as Vice-Chair of Governors at Cradle Hill school when Jon Freeman was Chair.
