Anyone who was out at stations along the route from London to Eastbourne and Hastings will have seen an unusual sight today.
LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 44871 steam locomotive hauled a special train service through the countryside with Pullman cars and other carriages behind for The Railway Touring Company’s The Christmas Sussex Belle service – with a diesel at the back for the Eastbourne leg and hauling the train from Eastbourne to Hastings.
Photographers were out in force at the stations capturing the magnificent sight of the steam train.
