Along the Arun Valley and Sussex Coast Lines, station partners and staff have been ensuring that visitors to their stations can pause to remember those who served to keep us safe in times of conflict. As Remembrance Sunday, known as Poppy Day approaches (11th November), one of the smallest stations has benefitted from a display created by Funtington primary school.
With a pupil count of just 85, the whole school was involved in the creation of the ‘suncatcher’ poppies.
A tissue-paper mosaic tile design was used to create a stained- glass window effect.
Older pupils worked with younger ones to position the pieces and then they were laminated to allow the light to come through.
At Bosham station, staff helped Su Cork, Art Teacher to install the poppies. Su said: “They are meant to look as though they are cascading. I do hope visitors to the station enjoy them. The display will remain at the station for a fortnight. Thank you for this opportunity to once again share what our children are doing with the local community.”
