Things to do

Passengers using two stations on or near the Sussex Downs Line can now get their train service information from electronic screens for the first time.

Southease and Glynde stations both have two new digital screens. Southern Railway says the equipment is part of its annual investment to improve the journey experience for customers at small stations across the network.

The screens continue a programme of enhancements to customer information technology along the south coast. New screens or public announcement systems were introduced last year at seven small rural stations in East Sussex: Newhaven Harbour, Bishopstone, Pevensey Bay, Normans Bay, Three Oaks, Doleham and Winchelsea.

Stephen MacCallaugh, Southern’s Head of Stations, said: “Many of these projects were suggested by passengers, local communities and station teams. They might be small schemes but they address local needs and make a big difference for many of our customers.

“We’re constantly working to make our train services and stations more attractive and accessible, to give our passengers a better all-round journey experience. And among our station teams, the improvements also foster pride in their workplace.”

Southern says projects across its network this year also include new accessible toilets, automatic doors and ramps, more secure cycle parking and additional waiting shelters.
