Colourful new artwork has been placed on the footbridge over the railway line at Lewes.

The refurbished footbridge was officially opened on Friday with a special ceremony at the bridge linking Pinwell Road to East Sussex College.

The panels all contain artwork on the themes of Black Lives Matter and climate change. They were provided by children from local schools.

Tony Kalume, chair of Diversity Lewes (our Lewes station Community Rail partner), initiated the refurbishment scheme with support from Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council, The Sussex Sign Company and Southeast Communities Rail Partnership.

The official  opening ceremony was carried out by Cllr Adrian Ross (chair of Lewes District Council), Cllr Wendy Maples (East Sussex County Councillor for Lewes) and Tony Kalume (chair of Diversity Lewes).

The schools involved were: Chailey School, Homeschoolers’ Network, Iford and Kingston CE primary school, Laughton community primary school, Peacehaven community school, Priory School, Ringmer primary school, Southover CE primary school, Western Road community primary school.
