The spotlight in our ‘Community Rail Coronation Connections’ campaign falls on Arundel Castle on the Arun Valley Line.
Arundel Castle has been the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors for more than 850 years.
The Duke of Norfolk holds the office of Earl Marshal and has responsibility for state ceremonies including coronations, state funerals and the state opening of Parliament.
The current Earl Marshal is Edward William Fitzalan Howard, 18th Duke of Norfolk who is directing the arrangements for the Coronation and who was responsible for the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II last year.
Queen Victoria stayed at Arundel Castle with Prince Albert for three days in 1846. The bedroom and library furniture were specially commissioned for this visit and made by a leading London furniture designer.
Taking the train from central London to Arundel Station emits 70% less in greenhouse gases than driving a car on the same journey.
