On 15th February,  we brought you news of ‘The Lost Railways’ project, which can be read here: Lost Railway boards a nice addition to the Downslink route | Southeast Communities Rail Partnership (southeastcrp.org)

On Friday 19th April, in the late afternoon,  local volunteers, together with representatives from SDNPA and SCRP, gathered along the Downslink path, on the site of the former Bramber station, to celebrate the ‘official unveiling’ of the Lost Railway Information Boards.

The ribbon was cut by Stephen Cranford, BBC Radio Sussex presenter and the host of a series of films being created about the bygone age of railways entitled: Tracing the Rails.  Russell Barnes, the initiator of the project and Chair of the Steyning & District Community Partnership Visitor & Tourism Committee, delivered a short speech of thanks to all who have been involved in this 3 year project.   Special recognition was also given to the superb designer of the boards, Michael Bissett-Powell, who unfortunately was unable to be present because of ill health.

Russell, who together with Reina Alston, led the project, thanked the funders, South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) and Community Rail Network, as well as others who had helped to bring it to this point.

The group was then invited to St Mary’s House and gardens for refreshments.
