SCRP is delighted to be shortlisted for the 2018 ACORP Community Rail Awards.
A blue plaque, installed at Seaford Station to commemorate the contribution of the British West Indies Regiment in the First World War, was shortlisted for the Small Projects Award. This project brought together the Beulah Academy who sponsor blue plaques to highlight black history around the UK, the Seaford Museum and local historians, and the Town Council, to remember the training of this regiment at Seaford over the winter of 1915-16. Southern and Network Rail helped with permissions and installation of the plaque and an unveiling ceremony was held in March 2018.
A series of community photo exhibitions at Bexhill Station was shortlisted for a Community Art Award. The exhibitions are conceived and coordinated by artist Louise Kenward, working with Bexhill community groups including Dementia Action Alliance and the Brownies. Southern has printed and installed the large-scale photos in special frames, to give the community a voice through photography.
Friends of Angmering Station were shortlisted for the ‘It’s Your Station’ Award for their Sidetracked project which brings together five local groups including Georgian Gardens School and Men in Sheds, to create art and gardening displays which brighten the platforms and waiting room.
The awards will be presented at an event on 4th October to celebrate everyone’s hard work.
