Overall station usage on the Sussex Downs Line was up 23% in the last year, according to figures released today.
Every station on the line except Southease recorded an increase between April 2022 and March 2023 compared with the
year before. Southease recorded an estimated slight fall in numbers.
The Office of Rail and Road estimates there were 18,952,028 station entries and exits at the 10 stations on the line last year. In the previous year (April 2021-March 2022), the number was 15,392,966. Overall station usage, however, is still below pre-Covid levels.
Brighton is the second busiest station in the South East after Gatwick Airport and the seventh most used station outside London.
Bishopstone recorded an 18% increase in estimated station usage and the highest recorded figure since the current time
series began in 1997-98.
