This month, children from Penhill Playgroup visited Lancing Station, to meet the staff, see the trains, and visit the volunteers’ gardens.
To help them enjoy the day, and learn about safety at the same time, SCRP Line Officer Rowena Tyler delivered a box of ‘Staying Safe with Thomas’ story books, donated by Network Rail.
Wendy Peters from Keep Lancing Lovely handed out a book to each of the young visitors. Back at the playgroup, the children made stencil pictures of trains, which they coloured in, with some comments about their day out.
Katie Ayling, Manager of Penhill Playgroup sent a thank you letter to Keep Lancing Lovely, in which she said:
“All the children were so happy to have their own copy of the Thomas book to take home. We have been learning about staying safe whilst travelling and the book helped us to think about what is dangerous and what is safe.
We enjoyed our visit to the station, where we watched several trains pass through. The children particularly liked being on top of he bridge, waving to the drivers (who waved back, making their day!)”
The thank you letter and children’s pictures are on display at Lancing Station.
