Planning for 180 years of the railway at Ashford

Ashford International is looking forward to celebrating 180 years of the railway later in the year through a number of events centred in and around the station.

To start planning our first stop was a meeting with local historian Ann Austin who provides local guided walking tours Tales From The Tracks  and model railway experts Fred Garner and John Worger from Ashford Model Railway Education Centre AIMREC and The Railway Men of Kent Ltd

It was great to take a look around the education centre and see some of the winning layouts from series two of the Channel 5 programme ‘The Great Model Railway Challenge”

Great to hear about positive stories through some of the great work tackling isolation and providing opportunities for visitors of all ages that is offered at AIMREC.

We look forward to working together with Southeastern station staff at Ashford and other partners on celebration plans.
