Sussex Downs Line chair Norman Baker has been out and about meeting Community Rail volunteers.

He caught up with Mary Sautter from Lewes Pots and Plants who runs the small team of volunteers who look after the flowers and trees at Lewes railway station.

She explained the work they do including seeking annual sponsorship of the tubs from businesses in the town.

Then it was on by train to Bishopstone to learn more about the plans to restore the station to its Art Deco glory by the Friends of Bishopstone Station chaired by Barbara Mine.

Work is progressing on refurbishing the former general store into a community hub.

The volunteers work in partnership with the train operator Southern, Network Rail, local authorities and others to fulfil the Community Rail Network‘s ambition to connect communities to their railways.
