A new partnership has been officially signed at Falmer station. Sussex Community Rail Partnership welcomes Vanessa De Olivera and her team of grounds staff and volunteers from The University of Sussex. Vanessa and Lisa are looking forward to working together to see the station blossom with some wild flowers and beds. They look to combine forces with Duncan Marshall, who has worked hard on his own, gardening at the site for many years. Together they would like to maintain and replant some very well used areas of the station. Footfall at Falmer can be high on match days at the Amex Stadium, home to Brighton & Hove Albion FC, and the station is well used by students travelling to the Sussex University and Brighton University campuses, so some hardy plants will be needed!
Vanessa De Olivera of the University of Sussex and Lisa Stacey, Southern Rail’s station manager, said, “We are sure the station partnership will be a good thing for everyone involved, we hope to extend the planted areas and introduce some wild flowers’
In the future, the team also hope to bring a mural to the currently bare footbridge over the line which would add a splash of colour.
