Open days are planned at Bridge Cottage and Nutley Windmill after the enforced closures of the past  16 months.

Uckfield & District Preservation Society which owns and preserves both visitor attractions has made arrangements for an open day at Bridge Cottage on Saturday, June 26, from 10am to 3pm.

And five open days are planned at Nutley Windmill, the first on Sunday, July 25, two over the Bank Holiday weekend in August. The others are on September 26, and October 10. The opening hours will be 2.30-5.30pm.

During the open day at Bridge Cottage there will be a small exhibition of local interest, but the main reason for visiting is to see inside the cottage again, have a cup of tea and look forward to future events.

Once more restrictions are lifted, the cottage will be available for weddings and small celebrations, while if you need to hire a room for a meeting this can be accommodated. Please call 01825 760734 to ask about possibilities.

At Nutley Windmill you will be able to see progress made by volunteers restoring the mill.

Covid-19 restrictions mean visitors won’t be able to look around the inside but the plan is to have the sweeps turning so you can have a feel for the mill working and learn what is involved to keep the sails in trim and facing the wind.

The preservation society says great volunteering experiences if anyone would like to join the volunteers.

In particular help is needed on open days, specific knowledge of the mill is not necessary and some of the ‘old hands’ will be happy to explain the history how this magnificent example of an early mill works.

The Uckfield & District Preservation Society charity shop in Post Office Square, Uckfield, would be grateful for donations of goods to be sold.

The society says sales have been spectacular since the shop reopened and new stock is urgently needed.

Books, puzzles, bric-a-brac will be welcomed but most needed is saleable clothing. Items can be brought to the shop six days a week from 10am to 2pm.

Uckfield Heritage up-cycled items are also on sale in the shop so do have a look to see what is available.
