As part of the Department for Transport’s Access for All programme Network Rail is upgrading both Crowborough and East Grinstead stations with a new footbridge and new lifts, providing customers with step-free access at these stations for the first time. Tactile paving will also be installed close to the platform edges to assist blind and partially-sighted passengers and new CCTV cameras will also be installed to maintain safety and security.
The investment of £4.7m at Crowborough and £4.6m at East Grinstead (shown in CGI above) will make both stations much easier to use for passengers with accessibility needs. Work began on 1st November 2021 with completion in autumn 2022.
The new footbridges, lifts and stair structures are of a high-quality design which will be in keeping with the station designs and surrounding landscape. On completion of each footbridge, engineers will dismantle the existing station footbridge and remove it from the station.
