Things to do

We had a lovely day of celebration at Farnborough North Station to launch the new artwork. The installation spans nearly the whole length of  platform 2;  five panels printed with original designs by A Level Art students at The Sixth Form College Farnborough. The creation of the artwork, art materials and printing costs, was generously funded by GWR, facilitated by SCRP. At the start of the project, a workshop at the College with Surrey artist Julie Hoyle,  creator of the artwork for the underpass at Guildford Station, was an inspiration. Art teachers Penny Willis and Paul Ayres,  worked with the talented students to help them realise their designs as large scale public artworks which can remain at the Station for years to come.

The themes of wildlife by the railway line and the heritage of local railway history combine in these imaginative pieces which celebrate the anniversary of passenger rail travel for Railway 200.

The artwork was officially launched by Deputy Mayor of Rushmoor Peter Cullum, with Emma Hobbs Assistant Principal of the College and Julie Hall Cllr for Empress Ward Rushmoor, both saying a few words of congratulations. This was followed by tea and cupcakes in Reg’s Garden.
